So here is our first blog post. I've wanted to do this for a while now, but just felt a little uncertain about what to say or do. There is one thing that I'm very clear about. I want to help people and make them feel that they are heard and not alone in what they are experiencing, and to convey the idea "we are much more alike than we are different." I want this blog to be a real authentic reflection of that.
I have also felt a little directionless with my intention for having this blog; what would it be for? And quite honestly, who wants to read my thoughts and feelings? I guess you could call it a feeling of inadequacy. So I thought I'd actually use that as a theme for this post. I think it's something that we all feel a lot of the time, and often it's disguised as something else. Things like judgment towards others, hatred, anger, jealousy, fear to name a few. As I play with the concept more and more I'm realizing it's at the root of a lot of issues in the world. So what is this feeling of not being enough? The definition of Inadequate: "too low in quality or too small in amount; not enough" (Cambridge Dictionary). Too small, wow! Who hasn't felt that before? I feel like somehow we as humans started using inadequacy as a safety mechanism.
Its polar opposite is "Adequate: enough or satisfactory for a particular purpose" (Cambridge Dictionary). What if we felt that all the time? We wouldn't hold back with anything! We wouldn't really question ourselves and our ability, we would jump right in. So here's the catch and what I'm starting to realize. We are adequate in every way, we always have been and always will be. It's our essential being and there is nothing missing. I think somewhere along the way we got it backwards. We aren't meant to question whether WE are adequate for something. The question was always supposed to be is this situation, idea, event, program, though etc. adequate for me!? Not "am I good enough for 'that'" but "is 'that' good enough for me?" Of course, I'm not talking about that question coming from an inflated ego, thats a whole other subject for another post, but I'm speaking about a place deep inside that has the wherewith all to ask that question. The true part of you that KNOWS it's already whole. So it seems to me that whenever we are starting something new, or have a desire to do something its important, to know what place you are asking the question from.
So here's an easy tip to know right away. If there is a part of you (your mind) that tells you you're inadequate then you're asking from the wrong viewpoint. If you start asking the question "is this good enough for me?" you'll mostly likely have a shift in viewpoint and start feeling more adequate! because you'll suddenly feel "bigger" "above" the thing that you initially felt "smaller" than, and the answer will probably be "yes of course, that's good enough for me!" and if it's no, you most likely wouldn't want to pursue it anyway.
